Abby

Abby

Abby is a playful, spayed female who lives with Dax. She is a short haired pig who is black with orange markings, including an orange belly. She is a very sweet girl who likes to chase and be chased by Dax; she also enjoys being held and snuggling next to Dax on your lap.

When Abby was spayed in 2014, the veterinarian was only able to remove part of one of her ovaries. While she cannot become pregnant, there is a slight chance that the remaining ovarian tissue may regrow and form a cyst that would need to be treated hormonally or surgically. While this is a low risk, because of this, Abby and Dax must be adopted by a family that has had previous experience with guinea pigs and has an established vet who is experienced with guinea pigs. In addition to her spay, Abby had surgery to remove a bladder stone in the fall of 2014. We switched her diet to a timothy hay pellet with lower calcium, and she has not had any recurrences. We will take an xray of Abby right before she is adopted out to ensure that the remaining ovarian tissue has not formed a cyst in the past year.
